DESIGN INNOVATION

Designing the Model T50 sunglass gave me the opportunity to explore the material limitations of sheet titanium. The focus was to take a standard two-dimensional sheet frame and through the process of bending generate a three-dimensional design feature. Working closely with technicians we devised a simple hand bending tool that curved the outer parts of the sunglass style creating a sun protective side panel. The unique result meant that this feature consisted of one piece of titanium without any additional components. The curved side panels are then held together under tension with a 3d printed clip.

The sunglass style was awarded 1 prize at the IOFT awards in Tokyo within the category of Design Innovation.
